Leerdoelen  At the end of the course, the student is able to: 1.Apply dimension analysis as the basis for process scaleup 2.Define and solve mass and energy balances for a chemical production facility or parts thereof 3.Be able to solve elementary heat transfer problems and apply the knowledge to model heat exchangers 4.Describe and use phase diagrams for simple distillation processes 

Omschrijving  This course provides an introduction into the basic concepts of process and product design such as mass and energy balances, elementary thermodynamics (particularly phase diagrams) and rates of reactions and heat transfer processes. The concepts will be illustrated by considering a commercial emulsion styrene butadiene plant as an example.
