Leerdoelen	After having completed this course: - The student has acquired a broad general knowledge and understanding of the complex and diverse characteristics of international criminal law cooperation - The student has acquired thorough knowledge and understanding of principles of jurisdiction - The student has acquired thorough knowledge and understanding of at least one of the forms of international cooperation in criminal matters, such as o extradition/surrender o mutual legal assistance o the transfer of proceedings o the transfer of the execution of sentences - The student is sensitive to the general legal challenges of international cooperation in criminal matters - The student is able to identify and evaluate specific legal issues in the context of international cooperation in criminal matters and to present these orally and in writing.
Omschrijving	Detailed analysis of state jurisdiction and of the most important forms of international cooperation in the context of criminal cases, such as extradition, mutual legal assistance, the transfer of proceedings and the transfer of the execution of sentences. Special attention is given to the function of treaties and their status in the legal order of individual states, and to the system of mutual recognition in the European Union, which can be regarded as a paradigm shift in international cooperation in criminal matters. These topics are analyzed by way of studying, writing papers, giving class presentations and participating in group discussions.
