As of 2020/21, the curriculum of Applied Physics consists of 60 ECTS of courses, followed by an Industrial Internship of 20 ECTS and a Master's Research Project of 40 ECTS. The 60 ECTS of courses are divided into 40 ECTS compulsory and 20 ECTS optional courses (electives, see below). More information about the degree programme and its curriculum is available on the Student Portal.

In case the student prefers to take other courses, he/she needs to ask permission, in advance, by the Board of Examiners.

Optional courses (electives) and specializations (20 ECTS)

The optional courses are divided into three sub-categories to offer three different lines of specialization of 20 ECTS each:

- QMN: Quantum Materials and Nanodevices;
- BDFT: Bio-inspired Design for Future Technologies;
- MOM: Mechanics of Materials.

The student can follow all four courses from one of these specializations or choose four courses randomly from the three specializations.

Students who started their master after the academic year 2020/2021 must do a research project of 40 ECTS (WMPH901-40). All students who started in previous years must complete a research project of 45 ECTS (WMPH901-45).

Please note that the four modules 'Academic Skills' (WMPH001-00), 'Career Perspectives' (WMPH18003), 'General Physics Colloquium' (WMPH002-00), and 'Scientific Integrity' (WMPH019-00) are not separate course units, but are a compulsory part of the Master's Research Project. They are designed to be followed in parallel to the research project, but it is possible for students to do (parts of) these modules already during the first year of the master's degree programme.
