Leerdoelen At the end of the course, the student is able to:
1. Describe the anatomical structures supporting auditory and visual perception and explain their functions.
2. Explain the basic properties of sound and light.
3. Summarise and contrast the basic perceptual processes in hearing and vision.
4. Survey the most recent empirical work on sensory prostheses and auditory cognition.
Omschrijving This module covers basic and advanced topics in perception. Besides an overview of the peripheral and central physiology of the main sensory systems, students will learn about the mechanisms that underlie simple and complex perceptual processes, such as pitch and loudness perception, speech understanding, object and scene perception, and visual attention.
