Leerdoelen |
Review the mechanisms that produce radiation in the X- and gamma-ray bands, and study the sources that emit in that spectral band |
Omschrijving |
This advanced course focuses on the X- and gamma-ray emission from different classes of astronomical objects, and includes the following subjects: Strong field gravity; basics of General Relativity - End points of stellar evolution: Compact objects – Isolated neutron stars: Pulsars and magnetars - Accretion power: Structure of accretion discs - Compact X-ray sources: low- and high-mass X-ray binaries – X-ray and Gamma-ray bursters – Stellar-mass and super-massive black holes - Galactic and extragalactic cosmic rays |
