Leerdoelen  At the end of the course, the student is able to: 1) Apply the knowledge gained from this course in solving a problem or issue. 2) Abstract a mechanical model from reality. 3) Make a freebody diagram and to gain insight into the forces. 4) Forces, such as action / reaction force and moments that prevail on a body, truss or frame can provide insight and calculate. 5) Provide insight into and calculate frictional forces. 6) To provide insight into internal tensions and to calculate them. 7) Calculate the material deformations as a result of external loads. 8) Explain the principle of FEM (Finite Element Modeling). 9) Prepare and calculate a FEM model using SolidWorks. 10) Determine the influence of dimensions on internal stress. 

Omschrijving  "Biomechanics is the science that examines forces acting upon and within a biological structure and effects produced by such forces" B.M. Nigg. The following topics will be discussed:  Statics: what forces act on a body or part of a body?  What is the effect of these forces: distortion of biological tissues and mechanical tension in biological tissues?  Characteristics of hard and soft tissues  FEM (Finite Element Method).  Integration of biomechanics with the relevant courses from the same block (Anatomy and Physiology, Material Science).
