Omschrijving | This course surveys themes and media of artistic/visual production in China from the 1850s up the early 21st century, setting China in a broader East Asian context by reference to coeval developments in Japan, Korea and Taiwan. Topically, the course deals with painting, textiles, ceramics, photography, printing, cinema, and the visual/material cultures of urban and suburban environments. All of these themes intersect with one or more interpretative contexts of aesthetics, criticism, inter/national politics, economics and the histories of display/museum practices. | ||||||||||||
