Leerdoelen The students who master the theory and techniques given in this course will be able to:
- Write simple programs to perform basic tasks such as searching and cleaning text corpora
- Work with common data science tools to report on simple exploratory experiments (load a tabular dataset, transform data, create plots)
- Understand and solve common errors during programming (“debugging”)
Omschrijving This course introduces students to technical skills and tools that are relevant for digital humanities. Students are introduced to the Python programming language, with applications to text analysis and data science tasks. The topics that are covered in this course are: file manipulation, searching in text (regular expressions), simple textual data manipulation, basic programming, and working with datasets in common formats.
