Omschrijving | This is an introductory course on analysing and extending annotated data about objects or people. This is the second course in the data processing learning pathway, and it teaches the student how to test hypotheses, and to develop and evaluate basic machine learning methods. The aim of analyzing data is to reveal relationships, patterns, and trends. This can be done using statistical techniques that can tell us what relationships seem to exist among certain variables, but also to what level you can trust the answers we are getting. It often involves comparing information with a control group or with a baseline system. In this course we will mainly be concerned with quantitative data — data that can be translated into numbers. Various datasets stemming from different humanities disciplines will be covered. Datasets will be drawn from social media and other sources. |
