Leerdoelen Students will be able to read and translate early Middle English texts (prose and verse) independently. They will be able to contextualize the texts under investigation and evaluate them critically and systematically.They will also be able to search for, process and analyse information on Middle English from electronic sources.
Omschrijving In this course, students read, translate and analyse text fragments in order to gain an understanding of early Middle English dialects and of their literary and cultural contexts. The weekly lectures will provide introductions to the texts and their language, while the seminars will focus on textual analysis and close reading. In addition, we will study aspects of post-Conquest literary and cultural history for an adequate contextualization of the texts. Students will contribute to the seminars by means of completed translation assignments and active participation.
