Leerdoelen After the course students:
-can articulate the basic principles of evidence based mental health
-can articulate the research methodology for validating psychological treatments
-can articulate what a clinical guideline is as well as its strengths and limitations
-can articulate what a treatment protocol is as well as its strengths and limitations
-can articulate what routine outcome monitoring is as well as its strengths and limitations
-can select relevant information from the clinical guidelines when optimizing individual treatment
-can select relevant information from the treatment protocols when optimizing individual treatment
-can search literature for evidence-based-treatments when confronted with a clinical case and assess the applicability of the literature to the case
-can provide arguments to convince practitioners to implement a specific evidence-based treatment in their setting
-can provide arguments to convince practitioners to rely on guidelines and treatment protocols in their setting
Omschrijving Evidence-based interventions play a crucial role in the entire health care sector. First, we consider what evidence-based means and outline the origins and development of the importance of empirically supported treatment by means of literature. Then, the role of research on therapy effect will be dealt with, as well as the treatment protocols developed and used in effectiveness research. What kind of research is necessary and desirable to reach evidence-based interventions will be illustrated by means of examples. In addition, the development of multidisciplinary guidelines will be explained and discussed. The concepts dealt with will be illustrated by means of concrete examples of treatments, including treatment of anxiety disorders, depressions, and somatoform disorders in both adults and youth. Specific topics will be addressed in interaction with researchers that are experts in the field of evidence-based interventions.
