Leerdoelen | At the end of the course, the student is able to: 1. Determine vector properties (linear independence, basis, dimension). 2. Analyse and solve systems of linear equations. 3. Set-up and analyse linear transformations. 4. Perform matrix operations (multiplication, inverse). 5. Compute determinants. 6. Compute eigenvalues and eigenvectors and employ these in practical applications. 7. Solve systems of first-order linear differential equations. 8. Compute and analyse basic geometry (lines, planes and intersections). 9. Perform partial differentiation. 10. Compute extremes, gradient, tangent planes, and linear approximations. |

Omschrijving | In this course, first basic concepts and skills in the area of linear algebra are discussed. Subsequently, functions of one variable are extended to multi-variable functions, with topics such as: partial derivatives, directional derivatives, gradients, extrema and multiple integration. The material is illustrated through examples that focus on the applications of mathematical techniques. |
