Omschrijving In this course, theory and case studies are combined to give an in-depth view in the of transcriptomics research on prokaryotes and eukaryotes in answering questions in modern molecular genetics and -biology research. The projects selected for this course are based on published research articles. This online master course is divided into three parts.
- The first part of the course focuses on the theoretical background of Next Generation Sequencing (DNA-Seq and RNA-Seq) and on how genomics and transcriptomics data is used in research. Students will study various RNA-Seq methods and will present/explain the results of their study at the end of the first week using an online meeting platform. Also in the first week, students will learn how to work on a High Performance Computer to analyze data using scripting languages.
- The second part of the course consists of online lectures on specific software and statistics required for transcriptome analyses. The students will analyze their own datasets, which they will collect from the literature.
- During the third part of the course, the analyzed data will be coupled to biological knowledge by using additional statistical methods; students will draw conclusions from their analyses. Also, based on their findings, the students will be encouraged to propose ideas for further experimentation.
