Leerdoelen | At the end of the course, the student is able to: 1) explain the meaning, relevance and application of pharmacokinetic terms and processes. 2) analyze, interpret and evaluate pharmacokinetic information and to apply this into practical advice on dose individualization. 3) predict and evaluate the consequences of various physiological and pathological changes on the pharmacokinetics and therapeutic effects and to give advice on dose adjustment. |

Omschrijving | The principles of pharmacokinetics, sources and consequences of inter-individual variability in pharmacokinetics, pharmacokinetic drug interactions, multi-compartment kinetics, nonlinear kinetics, metabolite kinetics, pharmacokinetics of biopharmaceuticals, relationship between pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, modeling and simulation, data analysis, and the principles of dose individualization of pharmaceutical products on the basis of age, weight, renal function, population pharmacokinetics and concentration measurements (therapeutic drug monitoring). |

Entreevoorwaarden | BSc course WBFA16003 Pharmacokinetics. Specifically, the student should be able to: - describe the mechanisms of basic physiological and pharmacokinetic processes; - explain the connection between pharmacokinetic processes and parameters; - describe the drug plasma concentration as a function of time curve after various administration methods; - calculate pharmacokinetic parameters from the drug plasma concentration time curve and renal excretion data; - design dosage regimens on the basis of multiple administration of drugs. 5-10 first-year students from the Master's programme in Medical Pharmaceutical Sciences, and 5-10 second-year students from the Master's programme in Farmacie are participating in the course unit. The course unit is compulsory in the tracks Toxicology and Drug Disposition of the Master's programme Medical Pharmaceutical Sciences and is an elective of the Master's programme Farmacie. |

Opmerkingen | The grade for the full course is a weighted average of the written exam (weight 80%) and the hand-in assignments (weight 20%). For the written exam, the final grade on the exam is calculated as 1 + 9*score/maximum score. The total grade for all the hand-in assignments combined is calculated in the same way, that is, as 1 + 9*score/maximum score. Mandatory presence: Yes , Presence at the first contact meeting is mandatory. This course was registered last year with course code MLMPS04 |
