Uitgebreide vaknaam Caput Mathematical Physics (tweejaarlijks 2021/2022)
Leerdoelen At the end of the course, the student is able to:
1) The student is able to study an advanced subject from the field of mathematical physics by him/herself guided by the lecturer.
2) The student is able to give a professional oral presentation on a specific subject from mathematical physics and explain the subject to his/her peers.
3) The student is able to answer questions by others concerning his/her presentation.
4) The student can explain and is able to relate a specific advanced subject area from mathematical physics to a broader context which might also include applications.
Omschrijving In the Caput Mathematical Physics special subjects from the field of theoretical physics are studied with emphasis on mathematics.
The subjects are changing from one academic year to the next academic year when the course is given.

In the academic year 2017/2018 the subject of the course were N body systems. This first of all concerns Newtonian N body systems as they occur in celestial mechanics but also N body systems with other interactions as they occur in molecular physics will be studied. The following topics will be addressed:

- Newtonian, Lagrangian and Hamiltonian mechanics
- reduction of translational and rotational symmetries
- central configurations
- regularization of binary collisions
- two-center problem
