Omschrijving | This course is an obligatory course in the Masters degree program in Industrial Engineering and Management. This course aims to provide students with insights into the specific challenges and issues that entrepreneurs face when starting a new business in a technology context. The course provides these insights from a theoretical, scientific point of view. This course is suited for engineering students who expect to deal with entrepreneurship in their future careers. This could be, for example, as a technology entrepreneur, an engineer in a technology-based startup, an entrepreneurial employee in a large technology-driven company, a consultant, an investor, a policy maker, or a researcher. The following topics are dealt with: the entrepreneur, the business opportunity, opportunity evaluation, business models, the role of stakeholders and networks, business growth, financial attractiveness and viability, and financing high-tech startups. This course is NOT a step-by-step guide for starting your own business. In case you are interested in a more hands-on course, please contact the course coordinator for more information. For students who take this course as an elective, a motivation letter is required to enroll in the course. Please send your letter (max. 1 A4) which shows your motivation to choose this course as your elective and your background in management and/or business-related courses to the course coordinator before August 20, 2021. You will receive notification of acceptance before the start of the course. In case of similar levels of motivation, students for whom this course is an official elective get priority. Students for whom this is a compulsory course do not need to hand in a motivation letter and are automatically enrolled into the course. Please note that mandatory presence at the first lecture applies to all students. |
