Leerdoelen | The objective of the course Software Defined Networking is to obtain a deep insight into Software Defined Networking as well as underlying concepts, technologies and applications. In particular, the course addresses the following objectives: a. Understanding of key technologies in modern networking b. Understanding of the principles behind the separation of control and data planes c. Can apply concepts of software defined networking for distributed management and optimization of networks d. Have obtained skills in programming techniques to program networks and data planes, e.g. OpenFlow and P4 e. Understand the foundations behind network functions virtualization f. Understand principles behind Hardware- and Software acceleration of Network Functions and can apply them, e.g. in the context of DPDK. semester I b (Please note that this course does not follow the regular block system! Omschrijving | The softwarization of networks is nowadays a key driver for innovations in the telecommunications industry and the management of network service providers. While Network functionality traditionally is hardcoded in the network appliances (e.g. routers and switches), Software defined Networking allows introducing new functionality and new ways of programming and managing computer networks. This course deals with topics covering a wide range of topics in the area of software defined networking: • SDN Data Plane • SDN Control Plane • SDN Application Plane • Network Function Virtualization • QoS and QoE in Software Defined Networks |
