Leerdoelen | At the end of the course, the student is able to: 1) Discuss the strengths and weaknesses for scientific literature. 2) Perform lab techniques used in interface studies 3) Evaluate own data and data provided in a manner consistent with scientific reports and publications 4) Integrate literature critiques into practical report 5) Assemble the collected data and literature critiques into a report in the manner of a scientific publication |

Omschrijving | In combination with the bulk properties of an implant, the biomaterial-biological interface is a key determinant of the success of an implant. The characteristics of this interface determine key features such as protein adsorption, bacterial adhesion and host interactions. The learning objectives of this course are to gain hands-on experience of laboratory techniques used in biomaterial-biological studies and in collecting and describing data in a way relevant to scientific reports and publications. The attendees will be exposed to practical experiments in the fields of interface science, biomaterials, cell biology, and imaging. The attendees of this course will be expected to take part in initial lectures covering the theory behind the practical work; design, contribute to and perform work in a laboratory setting and finally write a report in the style of a scientific publication. Patient materials are used in the laboratory, but not by the students, hence a previous vaccination against Hepatitis B is recommended, but not required. |

Opmerkingen | Note: - The practical's are mandatory. Missing a single practical will result in requiring a make up at the convenience of the instructor of that practical. It may or may not be available prior to the end of the semester. - Patient materials are used in the laboratory, but not by students. Hence a previous vaccination against Hepatitis B is not required (but recommended). - Due to Corona/Covid regulations the above mentioned Teaching method and/or Assessment could be subject to change.
