Leerdoelen In this course students will learn all the necessary aspects to perform professional optical observations at the Isaac Newton Telescope at La Palma Observatory.
Omschrijving The course will start with some preparatory weeks, in which learn what is required to observe on a large, 2.5m, telescope. They will write an observing proposal to observe something of their choice.

In the second phase all students will go to the Isaac Newton Telescope, where they will all use the telescope in small groups to perform their observations. We aim to achieve high quality observations which possibly can lead to a paper in the astronomical literature. The students will spend about 4-5 observing nights on the mountain.

After having come back, the students will learn how to reduce the data, will analyze them and present their results to the whole group. If no data have been obtained, because of bad weather, literature data will be used, so that the course can be finished in any case.
