Omschrijving In the lecture course we will explore the observed large
scale structure of the Universe, the primordial structure
of the Universe imprinted in the Cosmic Microwave Background and our understanding of the formation of structure in the Universe.

Topics that will be covered are, amongst others:
1) observational overview of the large scale distribution of galaxies and the Cosmic Web
2) Galaxy Redshift Surveys: techniques, strategies and catalogues
3) Gravitational Instability theory: linear perturbation theory
4) Cosmic Flows and Dynamics
5) Gravitational Instability theory: going nonlinear. Lagrangian perturbation theory, Zel'dovich formalism, spherical model, homogeneous ellipsoidal model, N-body simulations
6) Initial conditions, Random Field theory, Gaussian fields, power spectrum
7) Fluctuation Modes and Mass Scales: Jeans instability and Jeans mass, Silk damping & mass, primordial sound waves,
Meszaros effect and Cold Dark Matter spectrum, Baryonic acoustic oscillations
8) Origin primordial perturbations: inflation, superhorizon and subhorizon fluctuations,
9) Analysis of Large Scale structure: correlation functions, counts in cells, power spectrum, morphology and topology
10) Cosmic Microwave Background Anisotropies
11) Hierarchical Clustering: Press-Schechter and Excursion set formalism, Halo model, Biasing
