Leerdoelen | At the end of the course, the student is able to: 1. describe in medical terms and recognize basic responses in general pathological processes (such as adaptation responses, cell death, hemodynamic processes, inflammation, repair and neoplasia). 2. describe in medical terms and recognise typical characteristics of the most common organ pathologies in the Netherlands (e.g. diseases of the cardiovascular and respiratory system, brain, joints, bones, gastro-intestinal tract, kidney, and liver). 3. relate and discuss interactions between physiological, immunological and pathological processes in both healthy and pathological conditions. |

Omschrijving | This course deals with pathological and immunological processes in healthy and diseased situations. The course consists of various (interactive) lectures and practical assignments (histology e-learing module and a group project) that are closely related to each other. In the pathology part, we will first discuss general pathological responses (including cellular stress, adaptation processes, cell death, inflammation and repair, hemodynamics, neoplasia), that is followed by organ-specific pathologies (cardiovascular system, lungs, liver, kidneys, GI-tract, CNS, bones and joints). In the immunology part, we discuss the history and introduction to key immune cells and structures, the innate and adaptive immunity and some pathologies of the immune system. |
