Leerdoelen Upon completion of this course, the student should:

1. Be able to prepare an experiment, this implies:
a. prepare the experiment / detailed experimental plan (in lab journal)
b. prepare the experiment / complete safety preparation & risk assessment (in lab journal)
2. Be able to perform an experiment, this implies
a. be able to work in an academic chemical according to the rules and habits, with a focus on the following essential elements: planning, performing and reporting about an experiment, keeping a notebook, working safely and handling waste properly.
b. be able to perform basic manual quantitative, qualitative and instrumental chemical analyses accurately, using prescribed laboratory procedures
c. be able to apply basic mathematical, physical, and chemical concepts to routine tasks such as the analysis and synthesis of chemical compounds and samples
d. be able to apply basic computer skills relevant to the chemical laboratory technology field.
e. be able to theoretically describe, to prepare and to process various polymeric compounds using standard chemical synthetic and purification procedures and technological approaches
f. be able to use interpersonal and communication skills appropriate to the chemical laboratory technology environment.
3. Be able to report about the experiment, this implies:
a. report about the quantitative/qualitative results of the experiment (in lab journal and report)
b. be able to perform routine statistical calculations to report the results of analyses (in lab journal and report)
c. discuss and conclude the experiment (perform calculations, relate results to hypotheses, perform error analysis and suggest improvements) (in lab journal and report)
Omschrijving The aim of the module is to learn techniques used in Polymer Chemistry. The practical includes:
1. anionic polymerization;
2. determination of molecular weight and molecular weight distribution range with GPC;
3. preparing a conducting polymer and a simple conductivity test of a film.

Entreevoorwaarden The course unit requires prior knowledge acquired from Macromolecular Chemistry (minimum final grade obtained = 4) and Macromolecular Chemistry lab course (minimum final grade obtained = 6).
Opmerkingen The quality of the lab report accounts for 60% of the total grade.The practical work during the lab course is assessed and denominates to 20 % of the total grade. The two discussion sessions (pre-talk and discussion) denominate to 20 % of the total grade.

This is a lab course and the lab sessions are mandatory.
Missing (parts) of the lab sessions resulty in failing the course.
