Space Mission Technology |
Leerdoelen |
The course ‘Space Mission Technology’ intends to familiarize the students with a variety of important aspects of physics and technologies necessary to design, build and use a scientific instrument to be flown in a satellite in space. The examples used in this course are based on first-hand experience with far-infrared astronomical space missions. |
Omschrijving |
The topics that will be covered are: space mission design, ensuring reliability of an instrument, rockets and orbits, energy management including thermal aspects, data handling and transfer, moving a satellite around, detector systems (far-infrared astronomy examples), the space environment and its effects on spacecraft. An emphasis will be on physical principles and key formulae. These will be tested in 2 hours of exercises per week. |
