Leerdoelen At the end of the course, the student is able to:
1.select proper distribution to describe particular experimental situation;
2.construct and apply best-suited estimator to extract relevant parameters out of measured data;
3.formulate hypotheses and proper tests to select the most probable one;
4.perform statistical analysis of measured data, determine if the data does not have systematic deviations.
Omschrijving In this course, the use of statistical methods in physics is introduced to the students. An introduction to theoretical aspects of probabilities and statistics is followed by a basis how to reliably analyse experimental or computational data, in particular regarding statistical and systematic errors. In addition, techniques to quantify the reliability of the extracted results will be discussed.

Understanding of properties of measured data, learn basic concept in probability, law of large numbers, probability distributions, information, decision theory, theory of estimators, point estimation, interval estimation, test of hypotheses, goodness-of-fit tests.
