Omschrijving | This course introduces critical forms of cultural production and research using software and data. Students will learn about key artworks and digital research projects in different cultural domains, with an emphasis on how these use data and software in creative and critical ways. Each week, groups of students will be tasked with proposing an art or research project that engages with issues raised in that week’s cases, texts and other materials. During these case study-driven seminars we define the technical, cultural, and artistic conditions, that underlie the production and functioning of these works. At the end of the course, groups of students will collaboratively propose and produce an artwork or research project that builds on one of the course’s five themes, which include: digital methods, simulations and gaming, data activism of marginalised communities, textual & visual mapping, and power and the political economy. | ||||||||
