Omschrijving | The SBM course is one of the obligatory courses of the SB&E track within the MScBA. The course content is aimed at providing students with knowledge needed to understand the essence of managing small businesses. This knowledge can also be applied to smaller independent parts of a large organization. Small companies have specific characteristics. Usually they are family businesses that go through different development phases. Growth, innovation, and change are themes that small businesses have to deal with. Also, ownership and management are intertwined, which has a major influence on the corporate governance of the firm. Such characteristics form the leitmotif of the different themes that will be dealt with in this course. This course will focus on the content as well as the process of managing SMEs. During the course, groups of students will do a small empirical research during which small business owners will be interviewed. Thus, students practice to apply theoretical knowledge to a real-life situation and develop their research skills. |
