2. Choose relevant theoretical insights that help analyze the issue studied and translate these into a theoretical framework.
3. Choose and apply an appropriate research methodology, methods and techniques, and critically evaluate the resulting research outcomes.
4. Argue why the strategy developed is suitable to address the research questions.
5. Answer the research questions based on the data collected and analysed.
6. Reflect critically on the chosen theoretical framework/perspective, means of data collection, data-analysis, results and synthesis.
7. Translate the results into a defendable conclusion 8. Write a clear and well-structured academic thesis in a largely self-directed or autonomous manner, allowing readers to critically assess the research conducted and results presented.
9. Present the findings clearly, critically and conscientiously, while being able to respond to critical questions.
10. Apply transferable skills in the undertaking and dissemination of research work, such as in the conduct of doctoral work and/or non-academic research.
Omschrijving The Individual Master’s thesis is the final product of the program. Students engage in the core endeavour and joy of science: discovering through a systematic or original way of observation and via in-depth analysis and thoughtful interpretation. The thesis builds on and reflects all that has been learned in the programme.
Students choose their own topic. The topic should be embedded in the Faculty Research Program towards Wellbeing, Innovation and Spatial Transformation (tWIST). In the thesis, original research findings should be presented, and ideally, an international article will be written based on the Master’s thesis: underlining that the thesis aims for an interesting and serious contribution to the existing body of knowledge. Students typically have one main supervisor, but depending on the expertise needed for the topic, input can be provided by an additional supervisor. It is advisable to conduct research for the Master’s thesis that relates to a possible future PhD project. The Master’s thesis is judged on the basis of a protocol with research oriented criteria.
