Leerdoelen After the course, students are able to
- prepare data for quantitative analysis
- detect data problems in real estate data sources
- provide solutions for such problems
- select the appropriate method(s) for analyzing research problems
- apply statistical techniques and diagnostic tests
- write and understand R syntax
- interpret regression results
- write a concise scientific report based on quantitative methods and results
- give a critical assessment of the use of methods in the scientific literature.
Omschrijving Real Estate Research is the modelling & forecasting course unit designed for the MSc Real Estate Studies.

This course focuses on data analysis and quantitative methods that are used in real estate, broadly defined. The course consists of a mixture of lectures and computer labs, and covers three main topics:
(1) classical linear regression;
(2) non-linear regression (probit and logit models); and
(3) time series analysis.

During the lectures, students will learn the concepts and skills needed to master these topics applied to various subjects in real estate, including property valuation, location advisory, and real estate investment analysis. We apply these concepts to real world problems of whether green buildings sell with a premium, or whether flood risks lower house prices.

Moreover, during the computer lab sessions, students actively experiment with and apply these methodologies on real datasets, in order to gain insights and hands-on experience. Furthermore, students will learn how to work with the statistical software package STATA and will produce a short Academic article, based on the application of quantitative methods and the interpretation of the related results. This represents a unique opportunity to familiarize with the standards and quality required in the master thesis.

After the course, students are able to
1. Formulate conceptual models for analyzing different types of relationships in real estate.

2. Organize data in real estate and implement solutions for data issues.

3. Apply and critically evaluate various quantitative methods, statistical techniques, and diagnostic tests.

4. Formulate and examine STATA syntax.

5. Interpret and critically evaluate the use and the output of various quantitative methods, statistical techniques, and diagnostic tests.

6. Produce a concise scientific report based on the application of quantitative methods and the interpretation of the related results.

7. Present research findings.

It is assumed that the students are familiair with concepts from Economics and Real Estate. Furthermore, students are expected to have basic knowledge of Statistics, Mathematics and Research Methods (at least 15 ECTS is assumed), or Chapters 1-4 Brooks & Tsolacos (2010) Real Estate Modelling and Forecasting.
