Omschrijving Please take note that this year’s course is different due to Covid-19 measures – this course takes the form of a fieldwork preparation this year

The fieldwork preparation aims at learning and practicing different methods that can be used to do empirical research into cultural geographical key concepts such as place attachment, sense of place, (regional) identities, representations, iconic landscapes, and liveability in the field. The course will be taught online, with a number of lectures in which students learn about different research methods as used by international researchers.
In preparation of their master’s thesis, students will come up with an epistemologically sound methodological approach for a potential study on a cultural geographical topic. Students will be able to provide arguments for their methodological approach. Students will be evaluated on their written rationale, oral (online) presentation of their rationale and research instrument, and their ability to defend their chosen approach following peer review.
