Leerdoelen | At the end of the course the student is able to: 1. dissect a biotechnology process into its individual units 2. design a biotechnological process given the substrate, micro-organism, and product 3. synthesize a working plan on how to implement a biotechnological process 4. evaluate the design with respect to alternative production processes 5. present (oral presentation and written report) his/her results to the right stakeholders |

Omschrijving | From substrate to a product using biotechnological fermentation processes is the main topic of the course. In this module, different fermentation processes will be discussed: batch, fed-batch, continuous fermentations. Pre-treatment of substrates and product recovery from the fermentation broth (downstream processing, DSP) will be integrated in the course. | ||||||||||||

Opmerkingen | Assessment criteria and final mark: Oral presentation (0.25): Criteria are: Structure (logical order), relevancy of content with respect to an oral presentation, appealing, to the point, present within a time restriction. Written report (0.75): Criteria are: Structure (logical order), content (design, scientific, business, evaluation, conclusion, literature cited), appealing. Both grades (presentation and report) should be >5.5. This course was previously registered with course code WMIE14004 |
