Leerdoelen	The student will have insight in how to do research in a scientific way, with Transparency and Repeatability being the keywords. Next to that the student will understand how to develop proper behavior in conducting scientific research following the requirements of the ‘Netherlands Code of Conduct for Scientific Practice’.
Omschrijving	Doing science has to be contemplated and practiced. An example study is analysed interactively with the students, and Do’s and Don’t’s are identified. Furthermore setting up a scientific study is illustrated and methods of reasoning are considered. Asking questions and putting forward hypotheses is discussed, followed by how to get to conclusions and how to discuss your own work. The importance of causal relations vs. correlations is stressed and worked out with a few famous examples. Furthermore, the need for originality as well as anchoring your own study in previous scientific work gets attention, together with rules and regulations as well as good practices on referencing to previous work and preventing (unwanted) plagiarism. Both the scientific approaches as well as scientific integrity will be analysed by the students in a few example project descriptions.

Opmerkingen	This is a mandatory module for the Master EES (cohort 2020-2021 and later). If the student is present at the lecture and actively participates in the assignment, the student passess this module.
