Leerdoelen Upon completion of the course the student is able to:
1. Understand and discuss the major theories, schools, principles, and research in the field of strategic HRM (SHRM).
2. Analyze the interdependencies between environment, business strategy, and human resource strategy.
3. Analyze how SHRM can contribute to individual (performance, well-being) and organizational (profits, market share, corporate.
4. Apply SHRM theories, concepts, and models to define and analyze a SHRM problem in an organization (team research assignment).
5. Write, present, and discuss research findings.
6. Formulate recommendations for HR managers to improve the organizations HR strategy.
Omschrijving The course aims to provide a scientific and analytical perspective on strategic HRM and the related design of the work organization. After finishing the course students will have knowledge and understanding of the recent developments in the field and are able to apply this knowledge in practice and in scientific research projects. Strategic issues dealt with in this course are: the goals of HRM, 'best fit' or 'best practice' in HRM, HR-systems and individual and organizational performance, HRM in the global economy, and HRM and environmental sustainability and social responsibility (ESSR). Moreover, the course facilitates students to empirically evaluate the states of affairs in organizations' strategic HRM.
