In Memoriam Anne Paans

05 February 2018

On 17 December 2017 our colleague Prof. Anne Paans passed away at the age of 73. Anne Paans has been one of the pioneers in the development of positron emission tomography (PET) in the Netherlands. In the period 1975 – 1991 he developed, in a collaboration between the AZG (now UMCG: University Medical Center Groningen) and the KVI, together with Wim Vaalburg and other colleagues a state-of-the-art facility for research on PET. The facility has been the starting point for the national center for PET-research that was established at the academic hospital in Groningen in 1991. This center still plays a leading role in the research on molecular imaging.

Anne’s collaboration with colleagues from our institute on various topics continued until very recently.
