Now is the time! On 1 December we will finally say goodbye to our 'good old' Catalogue and PiCarta.
new SmartCat has already been out for a few months, but some issues with respect to performance and (unavailability of) the view online button and the interlibrary loans button prevented us from completing the transition to SmartCat. Now that these issues have been solved, SmartCat will be the search and discovery tool of the University of Groningen and the University Medical Center Groningen (Libraries).
SmartCat searches the collections of the University of Groningen Library as well as of other libraries worldwide.
All books and other materials that you used to find through the Catalogue and PiCarta, are now available in SmartCat. SmartCat provides access to journal articles and searches by default not only our own and national collections but also those of libraries worldwide. Search results can easily be limited to books only or to articles, e-books or peer-reviewed articles only.
SmartCat thus has more to offer than the Catalogue and PiCarta, including useful options such as easy export to RefWorks and similar applications.
We are presenting a completely new version of SmartCat.
The appearance of SmartCat and the functionalities for searching and storing results will change.
The new version of SmartCat offers:
The new SmartCat is available here.
There are also new SmartCat Libguides available.
After this transition, the Catalogue will not operate anymore.
For more information about this transition and instructions for the new SmartCat, please see our support site.
