An NWO grant, the Harry Boer Best Student Award, Nigel Slack teaching Innovation Ward and runner up in Chris Voss best paper award: young researchers Dennis Prak, Aline Seepma, Kirstin Scholten and Carolien de Blok of the department of Operations Management and Operations Research of the Faculty of Economics and Business are very successful this summer.
Professor Ruud Teunter and researcher Dennis Prak, received a NWO Research Talent grant for the project “Effects of Forecast Uncertainty on Inventory Control”. The goal is to solve the mismatch between inventory control models and their practical use by building models that take uncertainty about the future demand distribution into account.
The grant will provide financial support for Dennis Prak to do PhD research at FEB. “Research Talent” is an NWO programme that offers talented, upcoming researchers the opportunity to fulfil their ambitions of pursuing a scientific career with a three-year PhD research project within the field of social and behavioural sciences.
During the 22nd EurOMA Annual Conference, held in Neuchâtel, Switserland, three members of the Department of Operations received a prize for their work:
The Nigel Slack Teaching Innovation Award was won by FEB researcher Kirstin Scholten together with Anna Dubois, with their paper: Advancing the skill set of SCM Graduates - An active learning approach
The Harry Boer Best Student Award was received by FEB PhD student Aline Seepma, (co-authored by Carolien de Blok, Dirk Pieter van Donk), for her paper Justice Or Efficiency Versus Justice And Efficiency? Findings From Five European Criminal Justice Chains.
Finally, FEB Researcher Carolien de Blok was one of the two runner-ups for the Chris Voss Best Paper Award with her paper How Public Service Supply Chains Achieve Integration: Findings From Five Cases.
Recently Kirstin Scholten’s “Mitigation Processes – Antecedents for building supply chain resilience” published in Supply Chain Management: An International Journal has been selected by the journal’s editorial team as a Highly Commended Paper of 2014. The Supply Chain Management: An International Journal Editorial Team were asked to nominate an Outstanding Paper and up to three Highly Commended Papers. “Mitigation Processes – Antecedents for building supply chain resilience” was chosen as a Highly Commended Paper as it is one of the most impressive pieces of work the team has seen throughout 2014.
