Gerard Dijkema appointed Professor of Energy Systems and Industrial Ecology

Gerard Dijkema has been appointed Professor of Energy Systems and Industrial Ecology as of May 1st, 2014. The chair will operate as part of the Energy and Sustainability Research Institute Groningen (ESRIG) of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Dijkema is also chair of the IVEM capacity group, which forms part of ESRIG.

His research focus is the understanding and modelling of energy systems, energy infrastructure, industry networks and material cycles. His objective is to explore the effects of innovation, policy and regulation on the development of these complex adaptive systems and to explore the (im)possibilities of technology, sustainable development, system integration and transition.

Dr Gerard Dijkema (1962) graduated with distinction in Chemical Engineering at the University of Twente. He then worked Shell and NAM. In 2004, he was awarded a PhD by TU Delft with a thesis entitled Process System Innovation by Design. Towards a Sustainable Petrochemical Industry. Since, he has been Associate Professor of Energy and Industry at the faculty of Technology, Policy and Management in Delft.
