On Thursday 19 December 2013, Jordy de Vries, former PhD student in the Theory group at KVI, won the Van Swinderen prize competition of the Koninklijk Natuurkundig Genootschap (KNG). The prize is meant for the author of the best cum laude PhD thesis within the University of Groningen in the field of natural and medical sciences. De Vries defended his PhD thesis, entitled "Hadronic time-reversal violation in effective field theory", on 19 October 2012.
