Minister Kamp appoints FEB Professor Van Manen in committee 'good governance'
Professor Jaap van Manen of the Department of Accountancy at FEB, has been appointed chairman of the new Monitoring Committee Corporate Governance Code ("Code Tabaksblatt"). Minister Kamp of Economic Affairs set up the new committee to monitor compliance with the Dutch Code of Good Governance. The nomination period is four years.
The Monitoring Committee is continuing the work of the committees Frijns and Streppel. According to Minister Kamp, good governance is best stimulated by agreements that companies make themselves, and where they incite one another. "Self-regulation through a code of conduct where the effective compliance is monitored by an independent commission reduces the need for new rules from the government," Kamp said.
Code of Conduct
The code of conduct should encourage responsible and transparent management of Dutch listed companies. The committee sees to this by reporting on compliance with the code of conduct to the Cabinet annually. In addition to monitoring compliance, the committee is also responsible for identifying how the Code remains relevant and effective.
