University of Groningen signs cooperation agreement with Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil

05 December 2012

On 23 November 2012, University of Groningen Rector Elmer Sterken signed a university-wide exchange agreement with one of Latin America’s most prestigious universities, the Universidade de São Paulo (USP). The visit was part of a Dutch Higher Education mission to Brazil.

Extensive collaborations between USP and Groningen already exist between the faculties of Medical Sciences, on the levels of both student exchange and research. Also, the Faculties of Economics & Business and Behavioural & Social Sciences had already developed extensive exchange schemes. The current agreement allows also for other faculties to benefit cooperation with USP.

Both parties expressed their opinion that collaboration will not be limited to student exchange but ultimately resides in the development of joint research projects, of which student exchange will form an integral part.
