"Financial incentives remain important," says Prof. Hans van Ees on FEBlog

When looking for causes of the crisis, there is -rightfully- much attention for social norms and values, to try to adjust the behavior of bankers. "But since the crisis we have seen that external (financial) incentives -such as bonuses- do play a crucial role in behavior", says Professor Hans van Ees of the University of Groningen, "Economists have to monitor this will not be overlooked in the discussion."
