Does IT promote health?

Electronic patient records (EPR), Google Health, telezorg (telecare), online self-tests – these are all examples of IT being used in healthcare. Success stories are few and far between, however – Google Health has stopped and the EPD still has many hurdles to face, says Professor Boonstra. ‘And that’s mainly because the complexity has been underestimated. Technology can’t simply replace personal healthcare. We’ll have to try another approach, because nifty designs and clever implementations are certainly possible, that’s been shown by academic research.’
