Renewal RUGmail starts on 15 October

In the weekend of 16 and 17 October 2010 the university mail facility (RUGmail) for students, staff and alumni will be renewed. On this webpage you will find the most important information about the renewal of RUGmail.

RUGmail not accessible
Due to the activities RUGmail wil not be accessible from Friday 15 October 5 p.m. until Monday 18 October 8 a.m. Mail that is sent to your address during this period will be delivered with a delay from Monday 18 October.

RUGmail as of 18 October 2010
You will be able to use RUGmail again from 8 a.m. on Monday 18 October. In many cases, nothing will have changed in the new situation. Below you will find a number of points of attention.

How to reach your mail

  • Staff members: if you use the programmes Thunderbird or Outlook Express (University Workstation, at home or while travelling), nothing will have changed. You will be able to start up your mail programme as usual and use the same login details to gain access.
  • Students and alumni: if you use Thunderbird or Outlook at home, you have to change a setting. After the migration a description will be published on the website.
  • The mail programme via the internet (the web client) is now accessible via the web address https://webmail.rug.nl .
  • PDA: for staff members the settings for RUGmail remain the same. Students and alumni have to change the setting into: https://imap.rug.nl. The incoming server port is 993 SSL.

Information about a few much used options in the new mail facilities

  • Shared folders: if you use shared folders you will not be able to see these immediately. You can make these shared folders visible again by subscribing. Log on to the new mail facility ( https://webmail.rug.nl ) and click on the icon Subscribe to folder. You can find more detailed instructions on this subject in our manuals.
  • Subfolders: if you created subfolders in your Inbox, they will now be stored in the folder Inbox_cgp2010.
  • Rules: if you created rules via the web client, please check in the web client if these rules are active in the new situation: click on Options and Mailfilters.
