Bile formation is one of the most important functions of the liver. Bile is required for optimal digestion and absorption of fat and fat-soluble nutrients by the intestine and for the excretion of waste products from the body. “Cholestasis” occurs, when bile flow or bile production is impaired. Inflammation is an important cause of cholestasis, especially in childhood. In this thesis, the possibilities to intervene in inflammation-induced cholestasis using NR-ligands were explored.
