On Tuesday 17 March Dr Valeria Gazzola was awarded the Van Swinderenprijs of the Koninklijk Natuurkundig Genootschap [Royal Physics Society].
The Van Swinderenprijs, which comes with a prize of EUR 2250, is awarded annually for the best summary of a PhD thesis in the natural or medical sciences defended at the University of Groningen in the previous year. Dr Gazzola gained her PhD in October 2007 with a study of mirror neurons. This spring she will appear in an episode of the science programme Adams Appel about science and the brain.
