Hepatic peroxisome function in health and disease

01 December 2008

PhD ceremony: mw. A. Pellicoro, 14.45 uur, Academiegebouw, Broerstraat 5, Groningen

Thesis: Hepatic peroxisome function in health and disease

Promotor(s): prof. P.L.M. Jansen

Faculty: Medical Sciences

This thesis show that peroxisomes have a greater role in bile salts homeostasis than previously acknowledged and that peroxisomes have a role, not only in the de novo synthesis of bile salts, but also in the enterohepatic circulation. This implies the need for a transport protein across the peroxisomal membrane. Such protein has not been identified yet.
