Royal decorations for ten University of Groningen staff members

On Friday 25 April 2008, nine University of Groningen nominees will receive a Royal Decoration. Ms W. Lemstra-Wierenga has been appointed a Member of the Order of Orange-Nassau. Dr J.E. Bosch-Boesjes has been appointed Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau. Prof. G.J.J. Linden, Prof. T.J. Wansbeek and Prof. M.N. Harakeh have been appointed Officers in the Order of Orange-Nassau. Prof. B.L. Feringa, Prof. L. Dijkhuizen, Prof. E.G.E. de Vries and Prof. T.A.B. Snijders have been appointed Knights in the Order of the Dutch Lion.

Prof. F. García Martínez, professor of Religion and Literature of Early Judaism and Director of the Qumran Institute, has been made a Knight in the Order of the Dutch Lion. García Martínez will receive his decoration during an international congress in honour of his retirement to be held in Groningen on 28 and 29 April 2008 (please view press release).


During the Birthday Honours presentations on 25 April 2008, only 16 people were appointed Knights in the Order of the Dutch Lion, among them two women. Of these 16, no fewer than four are associated with the University of Groningen.
