Supply Chain Management

Programma

  • 1 jaar

Core courses are Strategic Supply Chain Management, Supply Chain Network Design, Logistics & Supply Chain Operations and Process Improvement & Change. The first three courses address supply chain issues on a strategic, tactical and operational level, whereas Process Improvement and Change focusses on the implementation of improvements.

All courses have a strong academic profile, with research embedded in teaching. At the same time the focus is on developments in practice: via guest speakers, case studies, projects with real-life data, company visits, consultancy projects for companies and large R&D projects of the academic researchers of the faculty.

Furthermore, academic skills and professional skills are incorporated in the courses, skills that can be exploited in your future job. You conclude your master with a thesis, possibly at or for a company, or related to a real life company theme.

The content of the programme is continuously being evaluated and improved in consultation with students, lecturers and the business community, for instance through the Advisory Council. Directors and managers from RFS Holland Holding BV (including Wehkamp), AT Kearney, Port of Amsterdam and Friesland Campina are represented in the Advisory Council.

Studeren in het buitenland

Waarom in Groningen?

The programme is a unique mixture of rigorous academic learning and practical applicability. You learn how to design, coordinate and control entire supply chains. You will learn to diagnose supply chain decision problems and propose, implement and evaluate effective solutions. Besides, it's an internationally accredited programme, ensuring a high quality education that meets both the AACSB and EQUIS standards, which only one percent of universities reach worldwide.

It's up to you how you develop as a student

I was keen to come to Europe because of the friendliness and openness of the people. I eventually opted for Groningen because of the high standard of teaching.

I like the field of study mainly because nearly all companies have an operation function. I'm particularly fascinated by the way companies try to analyse their production processes. The MSc programme offers many Options. You can choose your own path with optional courses. If you work hard you can learn a lot from this programme. It's entirely up to you how you develop as a student. At the moment I'm doing an internship at Wavin in Zwolle, a company that makes plastic pipes. I think it's very important to do an internship as part of the programme so that you can get an idea of how things work in practice.

"It is well deserved that the MSc Supply Chain Management has been awarded the 'Top Degree Programme' predicate by the editors of the Keuzegids."

"Supply Chain Management is a very relevant field of study, for example because of the development of e-commerce and the increase in easiness of growing a global business. This is one of the reasons why I chose to study Supply Chain Management. I wanted to study something that is relevant in society. Something you can talk about on birthday parties.

In this respect, the study has certainly not disappointed me. For example, this January (2015) we have visited the new distribution centre of Wehkamp.nl, which appears to be the world's largest automated distribution centre for online retail. Next to this, the courses of the study also satisfied me. There is a large variety in courses. Qualitative, quantitative, strategic and practical. This enables you to work on both your soft skills and hard skills, and to develop a wide base of knowledge in different fields of Supply Chain Management.

In short, it is well deserved that the MSc Supply Chain Management has been awarded the 'Top Degree Programme' predicate by the editors of the Keuzegids."
