Pre-conference event: Gender quotas in film and music?

In the past few years the music and film industries have been shaken up by scandals of sexual harassment, gender-based discrimination and the unfair treatment of women. From Harvey Weinstein to Dr Luke (KE$HA’s manager) a culture biased against women appears to dominate. Could a quota of women on- and off-stage/-screen ameliorate this negative dynamic?
Dr Rebecca Harrison, lecturer in film and TV at the University of Glasgow, and Dr Kristin McGee, a professor of popular music at the University of Groningen, will each present their views on identity quotas in these specific creative industries. How would such a quota materialize? What are the advantages and disadvantages of implementing quotas? And how might quotas be devised to recognise intersectional oppressions?
