The Great Grunneger Cake-off: fantastic prizes!

28 May 2019

The UG anniversary celebrations will kick off in an informal way, with cake and bubbly at the square in front of the Academy Building on Friday 7 June.

From 3 p.m. onwards, you are all invited to taste a slice of the cakes that have been submitted to the Great Grunneger Cake-off, the baking competition for students and staff members of the UG.

While we enjoy the cakes together, the jury – led by 2015’s Heel Holland Bakt winner Sarena Solari – will announce the winning candidate of the Great Grunneger Cake 2019.

The winner can join a macaron-making workshop with Sarena at the new company ‘Smaakaron’. Cookery books written by Sarena and a cake voucher for the Jullens bakery are also among the prizes.

And to conclude, we will raise our glasses to the 405th birthday of the University! They will not only be filled with champagne, as craft beer enthusiasts can also get a taste of the special anniversary beer called ‘1969’ made by Usva, which is celebrating its own 50-year anniversary.

Come to the Great Grunneger Cake-off: Friday 7 June, 3 p.m. - 5 p.m., Broerstraat, Groningen. Or bake your own cake and participate in the competition!
