  • 1.00 pm - 5.30 pm
  • 6.00 pm - 10.00 pm

At the Central Medical Library (CMB) the normal opening hours apply again, see opening hours CMB (for medical students only; reservation required).

The UB Zernike remains closed for the time being. N.B. it is possible to request books from this location via SmartCat, and pick them up at the UB City Centre.

The research room Special Collections is open by appointment only: visitors will only be able to consult non-loanable UB material.

The Self service A in the UB City Centre is open seven days a week:

  • 8:30 am - 12.30 am (noon)
  • 1.00 - 5.30 pm
  • 6:00 - 10:00 pm

When can I reach the UB by telephone?

The University Library can be reached by telephone from Monday to Friday between 9 am and 12 pm (noon) and 1 pm and 4 pm; please call 050-3635020.

Are the printers available in the UB?
How to use the printers:
  1. If you want to use a printer in the UB City Centre, you need to make a reservation first for:
    a. a specific day
    b. a specific time slot of 15 minutes
    c. a specific printer (which floor, colour or black/white)

Please note: Your reservation is only effective once you have received a confirmation email.
  2. At the time of your reservation, please report to the Reception desk of the UB City Centre. Please present your booking confirmation and your Student card, after which you will have to answer general questions about your health, disinfect your hands and receive further (hygiene) instructions.
  3. You can then walk to the specific printer room, always following the walking route (arrows and other signposts) set out for this purpose.
  4. You can enter the staircase through the access gates, using your Student card. You’ll need this card, too, to log in to the printer.
  5. After you have made your prints, scans and/or photocopies, you must leave the building immediately, again following the compulsory walking route.
  6. When you leave, please report to the Reception desk.

Important: Terms of use
  1. The printers are available from Monday to Friday, between 8.30 and 12.30 and between 13.30 and 17.30.
  2. Printing is only allowed for UG students. Please present your Student card as well as your booking confirmation when entering the UB City Centre.
  3. Access to the building is permitted five minutes prior to your booked time slot. Please wait outside if you arrive earlier.
  4. A reservation is valid for 1 individual user. It is therefore not permitted for more than one person to enter the printer room at the same time.
  5. It is not possible to use the pc workstations in the UB City Centre. Print jobs must be issued from your own device.
  6. As there is only one colour printer available (1st floor), you are requested to reserve it only if this is really necessary, i.e. if you actually need to make a colour print or copy.
  7. Hand gel is available in the printer room. The displays of the printers are regularly cleaned by our own UB cleaning team.

I would like to use the seminar shelves in the UB. How do I do this?
Students

The seminar shelves for the faculties of Arts and Religious studies are available again for students and staff at the start of the year 2020-2021.

If you wish to consult the lecture material you must reserve a study place for this purpose, preferably on the 2nd floor where the seminar shelves are located. You may use the photocopier on the 4th floor.

Lecturers

For the new semester, lecturers can reserve publications for tutorials on the seminar shelves. You can find all the information you need to request a lecture cabinet on the page Compulsory literature/Seminar shelves.

Because of the adapted services due to the coronavirus, we advise you to refer to online literature as much as possible and/or submit an acquisition suggestion.

Requesting books

How long will it take before my request is available?

We strive to make the requested books from our closed stacks and reading rooms available to you after 24 hours. Books that have been returned through our Bookbox however, are first held in quarantaine for three days before they are made available again in Self service A for the next borrower.

When you receive our e-mail, you can pick up your book the next day. The self-service in the UB City Centre is open between 9 am and 12.30 pm, 1 and 5.30 pm and from 6 till 10 pm.

Please note: the library app often mentions earlier that you can pick up your books. However, they're actually not ready yet. Please wait for the pick up our mail.

I would like to borrow a book that is stored in the UB Zernike or Tresoar. Is this possible?

Books from the UB Zernike can also be requested via SmartCat. Requested books will be transported to the UB City Centre for pick-up. If you're having trouble requesting these books, please contact zernike-bibliotheek rug.nl.

Books from the Tresoar are not available for loan. We apologize for the inconvenience.

I would like to consult a publication that is not lendable. Do I have to make an appointment for this?

Students who wish to consult non-loanable UB materials placed in the reading rooms may reserve a study place on the floor in question and take the material from the shelves and place it back after use; staff members who wish to view such material need to make an appointment with Special Collections. Lendable materials in the studyroom have to be requested through SmartCat.

N.B.: for consulting materials in the seminar shelves for Arts/Religious studies, see: "I would like to use the seminar shelves".

Is it possible to pick up books from the shelves in the reading rooms, now that the reading rooms have reopened?

At the moment it is not allowed to collect books from the shelves in the reading rooms. Due to corona, we only allow library staff to pick up - via SmartCat requested - books from the reading rooms. Our self-service B - the checkout for study zone books - therefore is still closed.
